A Career in Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education is a broad term used to describe any type of educational program that serves children in their preschool years, before they are old enough to enter kindergarten. The roles available to you for your career within the sector will vary depending on the qualification you choose to undertake. Teacher Assistant
Your role as a teacher assistant is to support a lead teacher as children gain school readiness and enhance their learning leading up to Kindergarten. Working with children from birth to 5 years old, helping them to master the essential skills required to thrive at school and beyond are at the core of your role as an Early Learning Assistant.

Career pathways via Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
Available through our Apprenticeship Program, we help pay for your Child Development Associate Credential which can lead to a fun, meaningful and engaging career as a:
Early Childhood Lead Teacher
Early Learning Lead Teachers are specialists in early childhood education who are responsible for developing and implementing curriculums, and mentoring staff under their supervision . They often work with children from birth to school age. Taking a child-led learning approach, Early Learning Lead Teachers nurture children as they explore and learn in the world and while recording children’s development.

Career pathways via Diploma in Early Childhood or Childhood Development
The next step in the early childhood education sector is a diploma in Early Childhood or Childhood Development. Your early childhood education career might progress to one of these roles or similar with this qualification:

Center Director
A center director is responsible for managing the daily running of the early learning center. This can include structuring the educational program or curriculum in the center, general administration, marketing, overseeing staff and ensuring the highest standard of early childhood education is delivered within the center.

Multi-Site Director
A Multi-Site Director is responsible for managing multiple Early Learning Center locations. They will assist the Center Director at each location on certain staff management issues and regularly meet with staff to make decisions, solve problems and strategize on immediate issues.

A Career in School Age Child Care
School age child care is provided to school age children from Pre-K/Kindergarten-6th grade before and after school, during school holidays or on Summer break. There are a number of qualifications you can seek out to gain employment in school age child care and our Apprenticeship Program is designed to help you reach short-term and long-term career goals in this sector. Child Care Assistant
Your role as a child care assistant is to support a site supervisor/director in ensuring the quality of care in our Before and After School and/or Summer Camp Programs.
Career pathways via our Apprenticeship Program
If providing care and education to children slightly older is an area of interest, then our Apprenticeship Program and the School Age Child Care Credential could be a means of advancing your career.
All costs for the apprenticeship programs are completely covered by our organization while you receive the School Age Child Care Credential (SACC) and focus on improving your skills while getting the on the job training hours you need. This program leads you to work with school age children in a variety of contexts, with roles including:​

Site Supervisor
Assist Site Director on certain staff management issues and function as the designated person in charge when the Site Director is not on site. Regularly meet with the Director to make decisions, solve problems and strategize on immediate issues with a one day-one month time horizon.
​
Site Director
A school age site director is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the Healthy Kids School Age Program Site.
​
Multi-Site Director
Manage Multiple Healthy Kids Childcare Program Locations and assist Site Director/Supervisor on certain staff management issues.
Regional Director
Managing all aspects of before/after school programs with a special focus on recruiting, supervising and developing highly qualified staff to deliver a consistent, high quality service in all sites having similar programs, managing an operation that follows state regulations and leading with an emphasis on effective communication and addressing issues head on.
