HEALTHY KIDS OFFERS UP TO 4 FREE WEEKS OF CHILDCARE WHILE YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS OF APPLYING FOR THE CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM THROUGH NYS

Offered through NYS, the Child Care Assistance Program helps eligible families with some or all of the cost of child care. Each Local Social Services District (LSSD) manages the CCAP with funding and support from the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). Interested in seeing if you qualify? Income Requirements

Here are the maximum amounts a family can make and still qualify. While this information can be a helpful tool, income is only one factor to qualify for child care assistance in New York State. Other families may also qualify, based on their specific needs.

Monthly Income Limit

To be eligible families must:

1. Children have to be citizens or have satisfactory immigration status

2. Live in NYS (foster families may be an exception).

3. Meet one of the following requirements (requirements can vary by county):

  • Working at least an average of 10 hours a week & making minimum wage

  • Searching for a job & can submit proof of job search with application

  • Two-year college/university for an associate's degree or certificate of completion

  • Four-year college/university for a bachelor's degree 

  • Program to train workers in an in-demand employment field

  • Literacy training to help improve reading and writing

  • English as a Second Language program (ESL)

  • Training program for a specific occupational goal at a college/university

  • Pre-vocational skill training such as basic education & literacy 

  • Department of Labor programs for vocational training

  • High School students - parent under 21 years old

  • Programs that prepares parent to obtain NYS High School Equivalency Diploma - no age limit

  • Programs that provide basic remedial education for individuals functioning below 8th grade reading level 

How to Apply

Many districts allow you to apply for the Child Care Assistance Program online. Please contact your LDSS to ensure online applications are accepted. You can find a list of LSSD offices here.

  • If you receive Temporary Assistance or are applying for Child Care in Lieu of Temporary Assistance, Transitional Child Care, or other services such as Public Assistance, SNAP, etc. you must complete the New York State Application for Certain Benefits and Services (LDSS-2921)

  • If you are a foster parent seeking child care assistance for a foster child, or have a protective or preventive services case, please reach out to your LDSS case worker to coordinate services.

  • If you are applying as a non-parent caretaker who does not have financial responsibility for the child who needs child care assistance, such as a grandchild, niece/nephew, or unrelated child, do not include your income. You are only required to provide the child's income on the application. If you are unsure if you have financial responsibility, please provide income information as though you do.

When the LSSD receives your application, they will request additional documentation. Please be ready to provide the district copies of your documentation, which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Proof of identification (such as, photo ID, driver’s license, US. Passport)

  • Child(rens)’s identification, age, and citizen/immigration status (such as, birth certificate, hospital records, permanent resident card)

  • Proof of residency (statement from landlord, mortgage records, current lease)

  • Income (pay stubs, letter from employer including rate of pay per hour and hours worked per week, tax records, child support, social security benefits)

  • Schedule of work, training, or educational activity (work schedule, school or training records or statement from school or training program)

WDI CHILD CARE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

WDI’s Child Care Scholarship Program – Scholarship funding for qualified families ineligible for their local County Child Care Assistance Program funding. This scholarship has much higher income eligibility levels. For example, a family of four: “over-income” for child care financial assistance at $108,631, you can now have a gross income of up to $124,800 and be eligible for this scholarship.

WESTCHESTER WORKS SCHOLARSHIP

For our Westchester families, this new scholarship has much higher income eligibility levels. For example, a family of two: “over-income” for child care financial assistance at $99,000 you can now have a gross income of up to $102,200 and be eligible for the Westchester Works Child Care Scholarship Program.

Eligible Families:

  • All parents in household must live in Westchester County, be employed at least 10 hours per week, and making at least minimum wage.

  • Your total gross household annual income must be within the income eligible guidelines listed below. Your household income includes all income, such as wages/salary, child support, SSI, etc.
